Michelle spent every weekend at her grandparents’ house. They needed help vacuuming, mowing the lawn and doing other household chores. Eventually, her grandma became very sick and before going in for surgery, her grandma was very concerned about staying in a rehab facility. After her grandma passed, Michelle decided that she didn’t want anyone to ever have the same fears her grandma did. Michelle worked at a senior community as part of the waitstaff, receptionist and as a medication aide. She noticed the hospital like atmosphere where the building lacked personality, the staff were merely staff and the residents were patients, and thought, “there has to be a better way.” Michelle later graduated from Portland State University with a degree in accounting where she focused on Medicare. After several years of crunching numbers, she decided that it was time to return to patient care.
